چکیده

an RNA related in sequence to that of the Rauscher leu kemia virus. The viral-related RNA found in these lym phomas is a 70 S component encapsulated with RNA-instructed DNA polymerase in a particle possessing a den sity characteristic of the RNA tumor viruses. Further more, the DNA synthesized by the lymphoma particles hy bridizes specifically to the RNA of the Rauscher leukemia virus. The particles identified in 81% of human lymphomas and in 87% of Burkitt's tumors thus contain four features

RNA tumor viruses and human lymphomas.

We have used molecular hybridization to detect virus-specific RNA in tumors ( I ) , and have found that corresponding neoplasias of murine and human origin exhibit remarkable similarities. Thus, human breast carcinomas contained (2) RNA possessing sequence homology to that of mouse mammary tumor virus (MMTV). This type of RNA was unique to the malignant adenoand medullary-carcinomas, being unde...

Burkitt's tumors contain particles encapsulating RNA-instructed DNA polymerase and high molecular weight virus-related RNA.

Burkitt's lymphomas, linked by previous studies with the DNA-containing Epstein-Barr virus, contain an RNA related in sequence to that of Rauscher leukemia virus. The present study establishes that the viral-related RNA found in Burkitt's tumors is a 70S component encapsulated with RNA-instructed DNA polymerase in a particle possessing a density characteristic of RNA tumor viruses. Further, the...

Molecular Approach to the Etiology of Human Cancer

DNA—RNA hybridization was used to explore whether human neoplasias contain RNA molecules having sequence homologies to those of the RNA tumor viruses known to cause similar diseases in animals. The pattern of specific RNA's found in the human tumors showed a remarkable concordance with the predictions deducible from the animal systems. Thus, human breast cancer contains RNA homologous only to t...

Biochemical approaches to detection of Epstein-Barr virus in human tumors.

The application of biochemical studies for the detection of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-DNA in human tumor cells is discussed. These studies resulted in the consistent demonstration of viral nucleic acid in African Burkitt's lymphoma biopsies and in epithelial tumor cells of nasopharyngeal carcinomas. The viral DNA resides within those cells regularly in multiple copies per cell. Besides these tum...

Hepatitis C virus and non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas: A minireview

The etiology of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL) remains a controversial matter, but, in the last few years, considerable evidence suggests that aberrations of the immune system and viruses may act as etiologic agents, in at least some cases of NHL. In fact, patients with primary immuno-deficiencies, or those suffering from diseases characterized by autoimmune dysfunction, show an increased risk f...
